moodSailor is a nautical navigation app for sailors, boaters, kayakers and anyone who spends time on the water. It works offline, runs on your phone, and respects your privacy.
NAVIGATION
- Course over ground (COG), speed over ground (SOG), max and average speed
- Distance travelled, current GPS position, magnetic heading
- Configurable GPS smoothing
- Reorderable metric cards: keep what matters on top
- TVMDC calculator and IALA region card
MAP
- OpenStreetMap base layer with OpenSeaMap nautical chart overlay
- Offline tile caching: pick an area and zoom range, download once, use anywhere
- Download map tiles, weather, marine data and nautical marks together, with per-topic progress; cancel anytime or leave it running in the background
- Three rotation modes: north up, COG-aligned, compass-aligned
- Follow mode with position marker and COG heading line
WEATHER, CURRENTS AND TIDES
- Wind, ocean currents, waves and swell from Open-Meteo
- Wave and swell height, direction and period, with a colour scale and direction arrows
- Choose which weather fields appear in the forecast sheet
- Animated particles or normalised arrows (NOAA wind barbs)
- Smooth heatmap with colour scale and legend
- Time slider through the forecast; hourly popover with mini graphs
- Tide curve integrated in the sea-level row
- Weather and marine data cached separately; purge unused data anytime
- Every recorded GPS point carries its weather, currents, waves, swell and tide
GPS TRACES
- Recording interval: 1, 2 or 5 seconds
- Background mode: keeps running with screen locked, persistent notification
- Live trace coloured by speed (blue to red, threshold configurable)
- Resilient to GPS dropouts; on-screen banner alerts you
- Android battery-optimisation guard; iOS native location manager
- Editor: name, duration, distance, max/avg speed, mini-map, altitude graph, weather and currents panels, tide curve
- Six denoising rules (accuracy, stop clipping, acceleration cap, altitude smoothing)
- Import via "Open With" from Files, Mail, Nextcloud
- Export to GPX, GeoJSON, CSV or KML
POINTS OF INTEREST
- Create, edit and delete POIs with custom colours
- Nautical marks: buoy, lighthouse, beacon, cardinal
- POIs on the map with type-specific icons
- OpenSeaMap nautical marks: pick an area, download all marks as POIs, search by signal code
AR POI FINDER
- Live camera with augmented-reality POI markers
- Compass ribbon with cardinal labels and 5-degree ticks
- Logarithmic distance scaling; configurable distance and marker size
- Immersive full-screen mode; user-reorderable layer order via drag-and-drop
- OpenSeaMap nautical marks and saved POIs visible in AR view
AIS VESSEL TRACKING (optional)
- Live nearby vessel positions on the map and in AR POI Finder
- Course and speed indicators; collision awareness (CPA / TCPA)
- Vessels rendered as kites under way (bearing line tracks speed) and circles when stopped (anchored / moored / aground)
- 3D side-view AR vessels at real angular size; closer vessels naturally hide farther ones
- Status icons (anchor, sailing, aground, paused) on both vessel symbol and badge
- Predicted positions in AR from last reported course and speed; stale fixes flagged with dashed outline and age label; off-screen vessel chevrons; separate vessels-opacity slider
KNOWLEDGE
- Built-in reference: glossary, beacons, ship lights, day marks, wind and sea, magnetism, currents, tides
- Search, sources, illustrations (IALA charts, NOAA declination)
- Interactive tide tool: pick a point on the map, see graph and table
- Morse code & ICS signal flags: text->code/flag translator, speaker or torch playback
SETTINGS
- 24 official EU languages
- Units: distance, speed, altitude, temperature, coordinates

Recent changes:
The Cockpit compass is now a dial with a heading needle, speed shows a trend sparkline, and the tide card shows the next high or low. On tablets the cards are bigger and clearer. Dozens more screens are fully translated across all languages, and knowledge pages now fall back to English when a translation isn't ready yet.
