Better than other reviews suggest and really adds to the experience. The app wouldn't let me log in prior to buying my ticket and access the content. There was a button there but just didn't work. However, once at Pompeii, I scanned my ticket and this unlocks GPS on map, downloads, audio and expanded text about sites of interest. Being able to do this in advance would have helped to plan my visit and download content before Pompeii, where the mobile signal can be poor.

Excellent app given it's free, and saves on renting an audio guide. To start you just need to scan your every ticket. It says scan the QR code, but mine had an ordinary barcode, which scanned fine. The app shows where you are on the map of Pompeii, and which spots have an audio description. There's useful written info too. The recordings aren't great, but I think they're the same as on the rented audio guides. Make sure you have a data plan and battery power though, it really ate through battery.

DO NOT USE THIS APP AT POMPEII, if using English language. Buy a paper map instead. You need Wi-Fi to open the map onsite ... and it just doesn't work and 4g/5g is poor, so you'll regret it! The audio is also largely useless because the signs on the pompeii site are only in Italian- but when you search in the English app, it shows no results. You have to use Google Translate first and then search. Even then, it may not provide the correct audio. The numbered signs are also not linked to the app.

Needs signal to work and that is poor in many parts of the Pompeii site. Every time it finds signal it effectively restarts. You can download all the audio clips, but they are the last thing the app tries to load at a point of interest, so they won't play until everything else in place. Some clips cut short say 20s before end. Points of interest are based on Open maps, which also needs a signal. You need the bar code number from your online ticket to sign into the app to start.
