Rock solid dash cam functionality. Never crashed, fairly low battery use. Background recording allows you to run a SatNav function whilst driving. If you do not have a separate Dash Cam I would thoroughly recommend this product and have gladly paid for the pro version.

With help of Automate (another application similar to Tasker) I created a condition to start the background recording after plugging my phone into the holder so that it won't start taking video provided only with power. The recording starts itself, there's no need even to light the screen up and search for any shortcuts. However. For the condition to work free version of Automate isn't enough (as number of elements in the condition exceeds free limit). So I had to spend few $ on it myself. But now it works as required. I've built this condition myself. Here goo.gl/DNwQj4 is a link to Automate right to the condition. All the rest is handled by Road Recorder without significant issues.

UPDATE REVIEW: The developer is working hard on this issue, but I still stand by my review. Applications such as Road Recorder really need to work on reporting errors within them so that the developer can see if there are any conflicts. The developer has used the same Samsung s3 that I have, and it works for him, but not for me. So it has to be something on my device. Just wish there was a way to send the error report from within the application. Problem is. There is no error report generated. Just corrupted files. If you can get the free application to work perfectly stay with the free application or decide to go ahead and upgrade only at your own risk. The problem with this application is that when you really need it it is absolutely useless in my experience. For example the pro version doesn't even record video on my ZTE MAX Pro. And there have been at least three times I really need the video evidence, and now it's not there with the file corrupted. It's not the SD card or internal memory as I have changed cards, and save locations. PAWEL IS VERY RESPONSIVE and is working hard to fix the issue. But as for me, I am going to have to suck it up.

The PC app does not work on win8 or win XP so I can only see videos with speed on the phone, on other devices there's no speed visible

This would actually be a really decent BodyCam recorder but for a few issues: 1. it's not been updated for 5 years! 2. Focus just does not work, regardless of settings, It's always fuzzy 3. Auto exposure for dark/night recording is too dark 4. The lat/lon & other data does not appear to be overlaid into the captured video. Very unfortunate issues, as otherwise this would be an excellent BodyCam app worthy of 5 stars.
