Scientific American is always a keeper magazine. Although the paper edition of the magazine is gorgeous, the typeset is incredibly small and difficult on the eyes - even if you see well. The app allows you to more easily digest articles because the font size is adjustable. Even on a phone (IMO, tablet recommended) the important info from this awesome publication can be fully explored.

Downloading issues has issues. I'm not sure why there's an option to download articles because you can't read them unless you're online. If I'm not online when I start the app the screen sits blank with the spinning wheel. If I want to read offline I have to go somewhere with Wi-Fi or cell service, start the app, let the menu load, and then I can read downloaded articles if I lose service. 🤔 Very poor design from a magazine that is supposed to be on the cutting edge of science.

Doesn't let me access magazine on the app even though I have a digital subscription. Redirects me to full webpage. What's the point of installing the app then?

Terrible newspaper. Nothing to do with science. Since months, I just read Democrats propaganda. Science is science not politics. We had science in work for politicians in Soviet Union. And everybody knows how USSR finished and what kind of life had people living there.

Needs a Dark Mode. As per the title. The app is basically functional, but a reading app without an option for Dark Mode in 2019 is really substandard. 2025 edit: app slicker now, which is nice, but more annoyances, e.g. opening on home page and not magazines, let alone last read. And still no dark mode, which makes reading at night much more comfortable.
