Comments on Scientific American for Android

★★★★★ J Herbsty · Mar 1, 2026

Scientific American is always a keeper magazine. Although the paper edition of the magazine is gorgeous, the typeset is incredibly small and difficult on the eyes - even if you see well. The app allows you to more easily digest articles because the font size is adjustable. Even on a phone (IMO, tablet recommended) the important info from this awesome publication can be fully explored.

★★★★☆ akbar sayeed · Jul 28, 2024

Interesting article. Refreshing to know that the Uber puzzle of consciousness is getting scientific attention. In this case through the lens and practice of advanced meditation. Also an indirect angle on the relationship between science and traditional wisdom as in religions.

★★★★★ Riccardo Maggioli · Sep 19, 2025

Love it. Very nice mix of articles with no ads. Easy reading and much more fulfilling than doom scrolling. Well Done Scientific American.

★★☆☆☆ JH Wings · Jun 16, 2025

Needs a Dark Mode. As per the title. The app is basically functional, but a reading app without an option for Dark Mode in 2019 is really substandard. 2025 edit: app slicker now, which is nice, but more annoyances, e.g. opening on home page and not magazines, let alone last read. And still no dark mode, which makes reading at night much more comfortable.

★★☆☆☆ Alex N · May 9, 2024

It's 2024 and your app doesn't have a dark mode? I'm just supposed to be blinded by a full white background every time I want to read something...

★☆☆☆☆ Lizzy C · Sep 16, 2025

Doesn't let me access magazine on the app even though I have a digital subscription. Redirects me to full webpage. What's the point of installing the app then?

★★☆☆☆ Michael Maurer · Feb 29, 2024

Downloading issues has issues. I'm not sure why there's an option to download articles because you can't read them unless you're online. If I'm not online when I start the app the screen sits blank with the spinning wheel. If I want to read offline I have to go somewhere with Wi-Fi or cell service, start the app, let the menu load, and then I can read downloaded articles if I lose service. 🤔 Very poor design from a magazine that is supposed to be on the cutting edge of science.
