Sine: Ear Training Games

Sine teaches perfect pitch the way you would learn anything else: a little at a time, with someone keeping track. You start with two notes, C and G. When you can tell them apart without thinking, a third is added, then a fourth, until you can name all twelve.

HOW IT WORKS

• Meet each key first. Before a new note is quizzed, Sine shows you where it sits on the keyboard and plays it next to the notes you already know.
• Miss one, and you hear both. Sine plays the note you chose and then the right one, so you learn the gap, not just the answer.
• Sine keeps notes. After every lesson you see what slipped, what you used to miss and now get right, and what comes next.
• Ten units, each in its own place, from the white keys to the black keys and on to chords.

THE SINE SCORE

A perfect pitch test out of 100, inside the app. Twelve notes, unique sounds, tuning, two notes at once and three at once. Take it again after a week and see how far your ear has come. Name all seven white keys on your first try and you can skip the first unit.

• Sine Duel: a note plays. Name it before Sine does.
• Defuse: tap back a run of notes to cut each wire.
• Tune-up: flat, sharp, or in tune, down to a few hertz.
