Comments on The San Francisco Chronicle for Android
★★★★★Linda Lee· May 11, 2026
I enjoy reading and using this app. It is easy to use and updates regularly. Really enjoy the interactive articles. Notifications of breaking news is helpful too. Lots of photos, maps and charts. The additional interactive features are great. There are many restaurants reviews for locally owned businesses. They've added a food search tool. Regular columnists contribute insights and opinions on life in the Bay Area, politics, culture and racial equity.
★★★★☆Herb Hoffman· Aug 9, 2026
The Chronicle app is easy to navigate. Local and national stories are reported with detail and clarity. This is still true now.
★★★★☆Meg Byrne· Dec 7, 2025
I like being able to read the digital version of the actual paper. Some problems with loading videos.
★★★★★Marilyn Nichols· Jan 1, 2026
Love the e-edition with morning coffee and news updates throughout the day. The locality of the news is very good -- translating federal news & regulations into what they mean for the Bay Area.
★★☆☆☆Helen Marcus· Apr 6, 2026
I'm confused. I can't tell when I'm on the app or when I'm actually reading the paper. Often there are more articles in the one that I really want to search out. I am consistently unable to share Chronicle articles with others including articles from SF Gate.
★☆☆☆☆Jessica Lunney· Dec 14, 2025
Does not keep you logged in, and you see a paywall every time you open the app. The app does not claim weblinks, so you can't easily get to articles from shares. The article search sucks. I extensively emailed the tech team about these problems, and they said basically screw you, you shouldn't have bought a subscription through Google Play, we're never going to fix these problems.
★★☆☆☆Heinrich Albert· Oct 25, 2025
Sports & restaurant reviews dominate front page. Comics are main redeeming feature, but they usually fail to load correctly.
★☆☆☆☆Dean Kertesz· Apr 23, 2026
App has been very buggy lately. Formatting failed and I had to reload it. Now stories don't load at all. I have to keep reinstalling.
