Chess Pieces:
♔ King: The most crucial piece in the game. The objective is to checkmate the opponent's king while protecting your own.
♕ Queen: The most powerful piece, capable of moving any number of squares vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.
♗ Bishop: Moves diagonally any number of squares. Each player starts with two bishops, one on a light square and one on a dark square.
♘ Knight: Moves in an L-shape: two squares in one direction and then one square perpendicular. It can jump over other pieces.
♖ Rook: Moves vertically or horizontally any number of squares. Each player has two rooks, positioned at the corners of the board.
♙ Pawn: Moves forward one square but captures diagonally. Pawns have the unique ability to promote to any other piece (except the king) upon reaching the opposite side of the board.
Important Chess Situations:
♚ Checkmate: The ultimate goal of chess, where the opponent’s king is in a position to be captured and there’s no way to escape.
♟ Stalemate: A situation where the player to move is not in check but has no legal moves left, resulting in a draw.
♟ En Passant: A special pawn capture that can occur immediately after a pawn moves two squares forward from its starting position.
♟ Castling: A strategic move that allows the king and a rook to move simultaneously, providing better protection for the king.
♟ Promotion: When a pawn reaches the opponent’s back rank, it can be promoted to any other piece, usually a queen.
