It is a very nice app because it provides you with a variety of languages and also the audio form. Meaning the pronunciation is accurate. I love the fact that it's also offline, and I can use it anytime. I'm at school or trying to communicate with someone in a foreign language. Very useful. I love it.

It doesn't correctly transcribe the spoken words. A lot of wrongly transcribed words if the speech function (which piggybacks off of Google Translate) is used. This is admittedly a Google Translate defect though. All in all, this app, while not a hitch free conversation enabler, comes in immensely useful in getting out of language tight spots and emergencies. It shines best as an offline translator.

Translate English to Japanese but the script is purely in Japanese which I cannot read, instead of transliterated, completely useless.

It's downloading translate from Google Translate, it does not work offline

I was looking for an off-line translator for Chinese. But guess what? With the Chinese language as source, you can not take a photo to translate a sign. Only type it in. Ever considered that if you need a chinese translator you OBVIOUSLY can not type Chinese? Sorry, but that is the dumbest thing I came across this year.
