Description by RLTW Written by the developer, not by AppBrain. Click to read.
What Is This? is a pocket field guide that identifies plants, animals, and insects from a photo — and tells you a little about what you found. Everything runs on your phone, so it works with no signal, no account, and nothing is ever uploaded.
HOW IT WORKS
• Tap a category: Plant, Animal, or Bug
• Take a photo or pick one from your gallery
• Get the most likely matches, with a clear name and a short description
WHAT IT CAN IDENTIFY
• Plants — around 2,000 common species: leaves, flowers, trees, weeds
• Animals — about 150 North American species: fish, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and birds
• Bugs — roughly 950 common insects
FREE TO USE — WITH AN OPTIONAL UNLOCK
Identifying is always free: snap a photo and see the top match every time. A single one-time purchase (no subscription) unlocks the full results — every ranked match, a plain-language description for each, and a "read more" link to the full Wikipedia article. Try it as much as you like before you decide.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
The AI model lives entirely on your device. There is no sign-up, no cloud, no tracking, and your photos never leave your phone. Use it deep in the woods with zero bars.
LEARN AS YOU GO
Descriptions are short, plain-language summaries from Wikipedia, with a link to read the full article when you want to go deeper.
A NOTE ON ACCURACY
What Is This? is a fun, educational helper — not an expert. AI can be wrong, and many species have look-alikes. Treat each result as a smart starting point, and always confirm with a proper field guide or an expert before relying on an ID — especially around anything that could be harmful.
