My Melody

Every first name has a melody. My Melody finds yours.

Type your first name and your date of birth. The date picks one of seven scales; each letter of your name becomes a note of that scale, and the notes vote for one of six modes — Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian or Aeolian. Composer and pianist André Manoukian wrote the music for every mode and every length of name; your letters are set into his melody and the piano plays it back, with André at the keyboard in the film.

WATCH YOUR NAME PLAY
As the melody plays, the staff lights up note by note, with the letter of your name above each one. You hear where each letter falls.

A WORD ON YOUR MODE
André explains, in a short film, what your mode says about you — its colour, its character, the composers who loved it. The app shows one of his lines about your mode before the melody is made.

KEEP IT, SEND IT
Save my melody composes a video: a personal note from André while the name's notes play, his film on your mode, and the melody with the staff and letters — plus, if you like, a short message signed with your first name. Keep the full video or just the melody as an audio file, saved to a "My Melody" album in Photos. Add an email address and the video is sent for you, as a gift. Each melody you keep is a small contribution that goes into improving the app and the quality of the melodies to come.
