Description
This aurora notification app shows notifications when it may be possible to see the northern lights (aurora borealis / australis)!
It provides configurable thresholds for local aurora probability, Kp-index (Hp30), solar wind parameters (Bz/Bt) and Kp-level forecast for the evening.
It also allows you to be alerted when other app users nearby have seen the aurora light display. For the alert feature to work, other app users register aurora reports when they are successful hunting and get to see the aurora light display. This has proven to be quite successful.
Many of the app users also upload pictures of northern lights when they see them, and in this app you can see these pictures. You can also see dots on a 3d-globe animation showing where people have just observed the light show. There are users in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand who regularly report their observations and upload pictures.
Although the chances are greater if you live in Alaska, northern Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland, the southern tip of New Zealand etc, there are also regular opportunities in places like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Washington, Montana, Michigan, Chicago, New York, Scotland, Denmark, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the Baltics etc.
The premium version which can be bought within the app itself offers some more technical information and graphs of Kp-index predictions, cloud cover and solar wind parameters - and some hidden features.

Very good app. It has loads of settings to fine tune for alerting you of possible Northern Lights in your area. LOTS of settings that are VERY fine tuneable. (Is tuneable a word?) I used it much more when I lived in the State of Washington, but much less now that I live in Oklahoma, but I'm not giving up on seeing Northern Lights this far south. At least not yet anyway. It doesn't happen very often but the Aurora are seen this far south every once in a while. It could happen. Stop laughing.

Gives notifications of upcoming aurora activity. Has a handy feature to upload photos, so others can see what you're seeing and give a sense of the activity for that day. The free version does the job and there's no pop-up ads or annoying nags to get premium so recommended for those trying to chase auroras.

This app really keeps me updated, and I love all the pictures!.

Terrible, Waste of App Space. This app will send out notifications during the day when obviously you aren't going to see anything, it will send out notifications when nothing is going on but won't send out anything on the nights when it's a very active night. Also, I will get the alert that activity is high in my area and people have been posting pictures but when I open them they are from Greenland or Sweden, I'm in the upper Midwest. I want to see what others around me are seeing.

I just upgraded and was very disappointed. I paid the money in the only thing that changed was there's a little red dot on the picture of the globe showing where I am (I already know where I am) and then for the maps showing a forecast they post a link that's not associated with the app! This is very sad Aurora Notifier!!! If there's something more, let me know please!

Doesn't work without access to location data - at all (can't be set manually). Useless if you don't want to keep that on at all times.
