Description
Dublin Cycling Buddy (DCB) helps make your cycle rides around Dublin safer and more enjoyable! Built using a new community-powered cycling navigation engine, the app will find safe, bike-friendly routes for your commuting and recreational rides. The app's voice turn-by-turn navigation will then guide you along the routes, alerting you about possible dangers along the route. It utilises large data sets, including GPS trajectories and crowdsourced issue reports, with a data engine that analyses the collected data to produce these optimised routes.
The solution will give cyclists peace of mind when planning their commutes, knowing full well that they are getting the best selection of cycling-optimized routes available. This will help both inexperienced cyclists to choose the safest routes possible while allowing the more experienced cyclists to choose an optimized route with a travel-time and bike-friendliness trade-off that best suits their preferences.
Additionally, the collection of data from cycling routes will help the city council’s planning department determine which ‘non official’ routes that cyclists are organically taking, in order to improve cycling infrastructure in these key locations.
After an extensive Beta phase, this full release has taken into account lots of the feedback as reported by you.

As one of the data sources, Dublin Cycling Buddy uses OpenStreetMap maps, a collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world based on the Open Database License.

Update: Routes improved after feedback sent. 1st review: Main route from Finglas to city on N2 main road with outdated cycle path is rated 27% bike friendly. App suggests a "98%" bike friendly route from Finglas, but it suggests to take a cycle forbidden pedestrian footbridge, to go down a lane way which has numerous dumped rubbish and glass, then it suggests to cycle through a field overgrown with grass and zero pavement. Another suggestion was to cycle through Glaswegian Cemetery.

Excellent app. Really helps me enjoy cycling in Dublin. Added benefit of bringing you down new routes through unfamiliar but quiet streets when the easy or safe cycling is selected. Highly recommend.

I have to say for free app this is very good. You can generate random route base on the criteria and distance that was sent. Plus generated route can be shared/exported to GPX and use with bike computer! And I live option to report problem with bike lanes etc. Ps. When I click to share/export GPX it doesn't display option to open app like Yahoo software or option to save GPX to the phone to open with other app later on.

This app is disappointing. 1. It doesn't support Eircodes and 2. The map information is very buggy. I want to plan a cycle to aviva stadium, but I can't do it as the arcade is unrecognized and the location for aviva stadium is wrong. Its leads me to an emergency exit on the opposite side of venue. I'll stick with Google Maps which is the only reliable map of Dublin at the moment.
