Ear Trainer: Hear Intervals

Train your ear every day. Every exercise free.

Ear Trainer is a complete ear-training course for musicians, singers and students. Questions are played on a real sampled grand piano, levels unlock as you master them, and the items you miss come back until you know them. Nothing is locked: every exercise, level and statistic is free.

SIX KINDS OF EXERCISE
• Intervals: ascending, descending and harmonic, from the minor second to the octave, plus compound intervals up to the thirteenth
• Chords: major, minor, diminished, augmented, suspended, all the seventh chords, ninth chords, with or without inversions
• Scales and modes: major, the three minors, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Locrian, pentatonics, blues, whole tone
• Scale degrees: a cadence sets the key, then one note plays. Which degree is it? The core skill of relative pitch
• Progressions: four chords in a key, name them by Roman numerals, from I–IV–V to jazz ii7–V7–Imaj7
• Melodic dictation: hear a short melody and play it back on the on-screen piano

A REAL COURSE
• 33 progressive levels; each one opens when you score 80% on the one before
• Continue picks up exactly where you left off
• Custom practice: choose exactly the elements, directions and options to train

LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES
• Missed items come back a few questions later and again on the next days (spaced repetition), less often as you get them right
• After a mistake, Compare plays your answer and then the right one
• Replay as often as you like, with a reference note always at hand

SEE YOUR PROGRESS
• Accuracy for every interval, chord, scale and degree
• Confusion matrix: see which items you mix up, for example the fourth and the fifth
• Daily streak and practice time

DESIGNED FOR PRACTICE
• Real piano sound, slow, normal or fast playback
• Dark and light theme, note names in letters, solfège or German style
• 71 languages
• Works offline. No account, no ads, no tracking, no data collected
