Fjordlight is photo weather for landscape photographers. It reads the weather model hour by hour and tells you when and where it's worth heading out: for mist, golden light, dramatic skies, starry nights or aurora.
A normal forecast tells you whether it will be sunny. Fjordlight looks at what decides the picture: which cloud layers sit where, whether the air is saturated, how strong the wind is, and where the sun and moon are.
AURORA AND NORTHERN LIGHTS, LIVE
- Tonight's chance of seeing the northern lights where you are, hour by hour, from Kp, solar wind, darkness, cloud and moonlight
- Live alerts when the solar wind turns favourable and it is dark and clear (Pro), and a free heads-up in the evening
- Clearer skies nearby (Pro): when it is cloudy, Fjordlight checks up to 80 km around you and points to a better spot
- Camera settings for tonight, for camera or phone, and an aurora widget for the home screen
- Share tonight's chance as an image
ONE SCORE, WITH THE REASONS
Every opportunity gets a score from 0 to 100 for each subject, with the reasons behind it and how sure the forecast is. You see that it's a 90 because high clouds are ready to light up and the horizon towards the sun is open.
SEVEN KINDS OF PHOTO WEATHER
- Mist and fog: saturated air, light wind and a clear night
- Sunrise and sunset: high clouds that catch the light, checked 40 km out towards the sun
- Dramatic skies: showers, clearing after rain and light breaking through
- Starry skies: darkness, cloud, moonlight and where the Milky Way stands
- Aurora: Kp index and solar wind from NOAA, combined with darkness and cloud where you are
- Reflections and frost (Pro): mirror-still water and cold, clear mornings
PLAN THE SHOT
- Light and direction: sunrise, sunset, moonrise and blue and golden hour, with compass bearings
- Sun, moon and Milky Way on the map (Pro): pick a day and a time and see where everything stands from your spot
- A planner up to nine days ahead, with darkness and moon phase for each night
- Tide times for the Norwegian coast, a drone check and the chance of a rainbow
- A seven-day overview of the best light across all your places
- Shutter time for sharp stars, for your lens and camera (NPF and 500 rule)
