BFRB Tracker is a private self-monitoring log for hair pulling (trichotillomania), skin picking (dermatillomania) and nail biting. It is built around Habit Reversal Training (HRT): notice the urge, log it in seconds, and reach for a competing response or a stimulus-control change before the habit takes over. Over the weeks your own pattern becomes visible: when urges show up, what triggers them, and what helps you ride them out.
A reset streak isn't a failure here. It's information about your own pattern, and the next entry is just as useful as the last.
LOG AN URGE OR EPISODE IN SECONDS
• Pick the behavior: hair pulling, skin picking, nail biting or other
• Rate the urge intensity from 1 to 5
• Tag the trigger (boredom, stress, screen time, reading, driving, a phone call, tiredness, concentration, anxiety) and how you felt
• Add an optional location and private notes
• Your recent entries sit on the home screen, so you can scan back at a glance
SEE YOUR OWN PATTERN
• A streak since your last logged episode, plus your best streak. A reset is treated as data, never as failure
• A Progress tab with total entries, current and best streak, and your top triggers from the last 30 days
• A history list of your logged urges and episodes
• Weekly Pattern Summary (Pro): a plain-language reflection of what your own logged data says about this week. No advice, no diagnosis
HABIT REVERSAL TOOLS
• Competing-response library: 18 techniques you can filter by hair pulling, skin picking or nail biting, such as a fist clench, a stress-ball squeeze, a textured fidget, a worry stone, light gloves or a band-aid barrier, bitter nail polish, tying your hair up, and more
• Stimulus-control planner: environment changes for 9 common high-risk situations, from boredom and stress to screen time, reading and driving
• Short explanations of the three parts of habit reversal: awareness training, competing responses and stimulus control
FREE AND PRO
Free: unlimited logging, streaks, 30 days of progress history, 4 starter competing responses, the boredom stimulus-control plan, and Crisis Resources. Once a day you can also watch a short ad to open the full technique library for the rest of that day.
Pro (in-app purchase): the full competing-response library and stimulus-control planner, the Weekly Pattern Summary, full history beyond 30 days, CSV export of your data, and no ads.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• Your episode log is stored on your device, not in an online account
• Notes and locations are never sent for the AI summary
• The optional Weekly Pattern Summary sends only structured fields from the last 7 days (time, behavior, trigger, emotion, intensity) to generate the reflection, and only when you ask for it
• Delete all logged data from the Progress tab at any time
• The app is available in 10 languages
WHO IT'S FOR
• Anyone who pulls hair, picks skin or bites nails and wants to understand their own pattern
• People living with trichotillomania or dermatillomania who want a private log built around habit reversal
• People already working on body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) with a therapist who want real data to bring to the next session
• Anyone who wants a competing response and a plan ready before the next urge hits
IMPORTANT
BFRB Tracker is a self-monitoring tool, not a diagnosis, treatment, or substitute for professional mental-health care. If you're in crisis, the Crisis Resources page lists free support lines, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and Crisis Text Line, plus a directory of helplines worldwide.
