Description
OVERVIEW
VoIP.ms SMS is an Android messaging app for VoIP.ms that seeks to replicate the aesthetic of Google's official SMS app.
FEATURES
• Material design • Push notifications (if using the Google Play version of the app) • Synchronization with device contacts • Message search • Comprehensive support for synchronization with VoIP.ms • Completely free
RATIONALE
A number of people use VoIP.ms as a cheaper alternative to subscribing to a voice plan for their mobile devices.
Unfortunately, this can make sending text messages rather difficult, as the VoIP.ms SMS Message Center is clearly built as a diagnostic tool for use in desktop browsers, not as an easy way to send and receive messages on a mobile device.
VoIP.ms does provide a mobile version of this interface with an improved UI, but it still lacks important features that are only possible with a dedicated app.
INSTALLATION
The Google Play version of the app uses closed-source Firebase libraries to support push notifications and facilitate crash reporting and analytics, among other purposes. The F-Droid version of the application is completely open source.
The Google Play version of the app can be downloaded from the Releases section of the GitHub repository at https://github.com/michaelkourlas/voipms-sms-client/releases.

The app's documentation is available in the HELP.md file at https://github.com/michaelkourlas/voipms-sms-client/blob/master/HELP.md.

Much more reliable than zoiper. I have 2 requests. First : When I send a message, if I minimize the app before the app has finalized sending the message. The message will never send and just say sending forever, or it will fail but still won't be able to send when you hit retry. Is this something that can be fixed? Second: Now that MMS is working and in the API docs has commands to send and receive them. Would you be able to intragrate this into the app?

App is OK for sms but some received messages are missed even though they are shown on the voip.ms message center. Doing a sync or sending a new message to that person does not bring the missing one up, it's like the message never existed. MMS are totally ignored, and you'd never know you received one. Still searching for a winning app for sms and mms for voip.ms. May end up porting out of the service entirely. Edit: This is actually a voip.ms limitation. App rating updated.

I downgraded my review from 5 stars to 2 stars because this app doesn't support MMS, if someone sends you a picture you will not even know unless you have it sent to your email. I switched to testable an app that supports MMS on VoIP.ms it costs $5 a month, but it's worth it since the MMS messages work perfectly.

App no longer sends Longer / Multi Part Text Messages in Sequence, or Truncates messages correctly. How hard would it be for the Developer to count characters up until the limit and create a Message break at the first space character before the limit. Yes, the App is free, but if the Developer doesn't have the minimum programming skills to do an adequate job, maybe the Source Code could be donated so a component programmer can take over.
★★☆☆☆
Works pretty well, but with a big caveat: It's not possible to receive emojis at all. You can send them, but if someone tries to send you a message with emojis, they get stripped out. If someone sends you a message with ONLY emojis, they get an error telling them the message was undeliverable!
