# BatGizmo

**A free and open-source app for acquiring, displaying and analysing spectrograms of bat calls.**

BatGizmo is a powerful Android app for recording, viewing and analysing ultrasonic sounds, with particular emphasis on bats and other wildlife.

## 🎙️ Live spectrograms

View live spectrograms using a suitable **ultrasonic microphone**, or use your device's **internal microphone** where appropriate.

## 📂 View recorded sounds

Open and analyse previously recorded sound files, including audio downloaded from **social media and other websites**. Large sound files are handled using **paging**, so you can work with recordings that are much larger than your device's available memory.

## 🦇 Automatic bat and bird identification

Automatically classify bats and birds using machine-learning models based on **BattyBirdNET** and **BirdNET**. BatGizmo also supports **Bring Your Own Model (BYOM)**, allowing you to import custom classifiers for your own applications.

## 🔊 Listen to ultrasonic sounds

Generate audible output from both live and stored recordings using:

* **Automatic, manual and dual heterodyning**
* **Pitch shifting**
* **Time expansion**

These tools make ultrasonic recordings easier to listen to and investigate.

## 💾 Recording

Record audio as industry-standard **`.wav`**** files**, including **GUANO metadata**. There are manual and automatically triggered recording modes.
