I purchased he Grill eye pro plus because it had 8 probes and I needed them for larger cooks. I had an issue with the unit freezing, but support was quick to respond. I sent you unit in, sent support a tracking number, and they sent me a new one. I'd strongly recommend a Wi-Fi extender. If you purchase on make sure that the default rate is 2.4g not 5.

I bought the Grill Eye Pro when it was at Costco a couple of years ago, 2019-is I believe. It worked great, right out of the box but then ran into some issues where it wouldn't use Wi-Fi to connect, only BT. I reached out to support and was blown away when I got a very quick response offering a video conference to fix the device. Ummmm. OK. This is not what most companies do. I was expecting an automated attendant and a non-functioning AI bot at best. I scheduled the video conference and got the opportunity to meet Nickolas (sp?) in Greece (I am in Alaska). He understood the issues I was having and helped me to reset both the device and my phone, so they would correctly sync. It took about 30 minutes, and he stayed with me on the video call the entire time. Now I am back to making some crazy, arctic brisket (brisket made while it is below zero outside) and also gave him some hints on how to view the Aurora Borealis if he ever comes to Alaska. This does everything I want it to; I am able to monitor it over the internet from anywhere, it correctly graphs the expected completion, I have the logs of what I made in the past, perfect. I was frustrated when it wasn't working like it originally and was fully prepared to give it a marginal review, but after the level of support I received... Not a chance! I get better support from my ~$100 thermometer company then I do from Dodge and BMW!

This little piggy rushed to market. This is a pretty good device with "must have phone app to use" that should still be in beta testing. It is still useable, but it is frustrating at times. It shows promise with features in the app, but they don't all quite work right yet. So I sit with crossed fingers and wait for another update... UPDATE 5-27-2020 (note I've owned this thing for 2 years...) TLDR: This little piggy was STILL rushed to market. Buy something else. Let me first say I've owned two different Samsung Galaxy Android based phones. My latest is the S9 I've had since December 2018. Its software is updated on a weekly basis. Before using this unit I always update the phone software and the units' firmware. I took them up their offer of sending me an additional unit, because who turns down free stuff right? In the hopes all the problems were hardware based, and my unit was just defective from an early manufacturing run. Wrong... so wrong. New unit arrived in a few weeks, and it appeared (from the outside) to be the exact same as my original unit. The plastic housing still seems cheap and brittle. I haven't dropped it, so I can't say as to how brittle, but I own other temperature monitors from other manufactures. Placing them side by side you easily see and feel the difference. Right from the start it was the same problems: 1 - Difficult setup process because of connection issues. I did a fresh uninstall, power cycle, then reinstall software on my phone multiple times just to get it to connect. 2 - Its general operation is still at times sluggish to update temperatures, update custom probe settings, etc. and other times will freeze, with both the unit and phone software. Only power cycles to both of them get them to somewhat respond again. This is very big issue when you are planning to cook a $200 piece of meat to a very specific temperature. If you're not closely monitoring the progression of temps, you may not notice that the unit has frozen. This is a serious problem if depend on this thing alert you of temperature problems if it has frozen. 3 - Once its finally working somewhat, the so-called "cloud" feature just doesn't work. At all. Press the Graph button at the top right, and get a "The Graph functionality in only available using the cloud" error message. Well...it's connected to me phone and my houses 2.4g band Wi-Fi. My Netgear R7000 router is located less than 30 feet away, and full bars on the unit's signal strength. Cycling the routers power doesn't help. 4 - Walk away out of Bluetooth range and/or let your phones screen turn off and loose connection to the unit. Only way to regain it is to cycle power on the phone and unit. This is closely related with problem #2 listed above, as a disconnection can a cause it to freeze too. 5 - The "Settings" menu.... Some buttons work, others just give you hope they'll work. i.e., Alarm settings>Disconnected alarm> on or off.... doesn't matter. Still get the nag screen regardless. So every time you walk more than 30 feet away, it logs another "Triggered Alarm". Every. Single. Time. (see a re-occurring them here?) 6 - All software/firmware updates over the past 2 years (yes 2) have notes that mention they've fixed this or made that faster. Every update has never been a 100% fix. It's either partially fixed one issue, only for another to pop up. i.e. The C to F temperature setting now does hold in the unit, but now the graph function is completely broken. In closing, it seems I'm not only one with these problems, which is somehow sadly comforting that I'm not alone. It also seems that Grill Eye has put considerable more resources (money) into marketing than software development. How much did that 3D concept animation on the website cost?? Over the past 2 years of owning this thing, I feel more like a beta tester who has spent over $200 total (bought extra probes). Definitely not a satisfied customer. I had to buy another brand of temp monitor because not reliable (freezing) and takes too much effort to use (sluggish & connection drops).
