Loam: MTB Ride Conditions

Loam tells you whether the trails are rideable right now.

Loam estimates how the dirt is likely to ride, using recent rain, soil drainage, weather and terrain.

THE VERDICT, NOT THE DATA

Open the app and you get one word per trail network. PRIME means conditions are expected to be rideable. CAUTION means trails may still be wet, so use your judgment. STAY OFF means trails are likely too wet to ride. DUSTY means conditions are dry and loose.

You can dig into the numbers if you want them. Most days you will not need to.

WHAT IT KNOWS

Trail networks across the US and Canada, each with its own soil type, slope, aspect, elevation and tree cover. Two networks an hour apart can dry days apart, and Loam accounts for that instead of treating a whole region as one number.

Loam estimates conditions. Estimates cannot replace conditions on the ground. Always follow land manager guidance and closures, and use your own judgment about whether riding today would damage the trail.
