Description by TheYourList Written by the developer, not by AppBrain. Click to read.
Luxmeter turns your phone into a calm, precise hand-held light meter for film photography. Read the light, set your camera's film speed, and get the aperture and shutter speed in one touch, on dials that click like a real instrument. Log every metered frame to a roll journal.
PRECISE LIGHT METERING FOR FILM CAMERAS
• Analog needle and exposure value (EV) readout that settle smoothly, like a damped meter movement.
• Aperture priority or shutter priority: turn one dial and the other is solved instantly.
• Camera body lock: choose your camera and the shutter dial only offers the speeds engraved on it, with the result snapped to the nearest marked speed and the difference shown in thirds of a stop.
• Full, half or third stop clicks, film speed from ISO 6 to 12800, push and pull ratings.
• Filter factors for ND, yellow, orange, red, green and polarizer, plus bellows extension and exposure compensation.
• Hold a reading with one tap, then recompose.
• Per-device calibration for the light sensor and the camera; compare once with a known meter for critical work.
INCIDENT AND REFLECTED METERING
• Incident mode reads the light falling on your subject through the phone's ambient light sensor. Hold the phone at your subject, screen toward the camera.
• Reflected mode reads the scene through the camera.
• Spot mode (Pro) measures a 1 or 3 degree circle through a magnified viewfinder. Add shadow and highlight readings to place them on the Zone System scale, see the subject brightness range and get an N-1, N or N+1 development suggestion.
• Kelvin mode (Pro) estimates the color temperature of the light and suggests the conversion or light-balancing filter for daylight or tungsten film. It is shown clearly as an estimate.
RECIPROCITY FAILURE COMPENSATION
Long exposures need more time than the meter says. Luxmeter includes a library of more than 60 black-and-white, color negative and slide films with their long-exposure behaviour: published data sheet values where the maker provides them, and clearly labelled field estimates where they do not. Pick a film, enter the metered time and get the corrected exposure. Start the Bulb timer to count the exposure down with soft haptic clicks and a tone at the end.
ROLL AND FRAME JOURNAL
• Load a roll with its film, rating, camera and number of exposures.
• Save frames straight from the meter with aperture, shutter, EV, mode and filters filled in.
• Add lens and notes to any frame, finish rolls when they go to the lab and reopen them later.
• Export a clean PDF log or a CSV file for your spreadsheet (Pro).
• Golden hour: choose your city and see today's golden hour, calculated on the device. An optional daily reminder tells you when the light is about to turn warm.
ON-DEVICE PRIVACY
The camera and light sensor are read in real time on your phone. Images are analyzed in memory and discarded; they are never saved or uploaded. Your journal stays on your device. No account is needed, and no location permission is requested.
PRO BENEFITS AND TERMS
The free version includes reflected and incident metering, the exposure dials, camera body lock, filters and one roll in the journal at a time. Luxmeter Pro removes all ads and adds the spot meter with Zone System, the reciprocity calculator with Bulb timer, the Kelvin estimate, unlimited rolls and PDF and CSV export. The reciprocity calculator can also be unlocked for one hour by watching a short video.
Pro is available as a monthly or yearly subscription, with a 3-day free trial on the yearly plan, or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in your local currency before you buy. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled; you can cancel at any time in Google Play under Payments and subscriptions, at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the next charge.
