Works well in most circumstances, but I have some niggles about the way journeys are selected sometimes. In one case the app proposed a journey via Halifax, although the train was booked up. I had to make different searches to find out that there was an alternative route via Leeds which really should have been offered in the original search. Also, I recently altered a booking. When searching for a replacement trip you are not offered the normal options such as Via and Avoid stations.

I can no longer download tickets to my smart card. As soon as you click on Smart card, it returns you to the home screen. I spent 2 hours on phone support, culminating in suggesting I uninstall and then reinstall it. That, unsurprisingly, did nothing. I have had to manually regress to an earlier version, else I keep getting stopped on the train. I have tried this on 2 different Android phones, and they both work with the previous version, and fail with the latest 2 versions.

Usually an okay app. Something happened to it on 29 June 2026. Bought a Flex Tickets and can't even activate it due to a glitch in the app. All the usual steps taken i. e remove app from phone and all related cache etc. and restart to no avail. Currently, emailing Northern to sort it out or at least give me a refund. Having to pay again for single day tickets which is annoying. Not happy at all.

Rubbish app takes ages to open and if you frequently travel or have a Flex/season ticket just use Train line. Traveling to college every day as the only person that buys their tickets and opens them through the northern app it takes significantly longer. This is irritating at stations and not good at all if you are in a rush as you are a lot of taking the train twice a day. In my opinion just use the Train line app as it's much quicker and easier to use.
