Comments on Synology VPN Plus for Android

★★★★☆ Thomas Webb Jr. · Jun 14, 2024

The app is easy to use and does its job creating a secure tunnel back to my home network. The big issue I have is the inability to exempt certain apps, for example Android Auto, from the VPN tunnel, so they still function while encrypting all other traffic. The only split-tunneling that is available is on the server side and IP address based, which (a) applies to all connections not just individual android apps, and (b) wouldn't solve the issue for this particular use case.

★★★★☆ Georg Zoeller · Dec 10, 2017

Generally great app, but not working after Pixel2 update to Oreo 8.1 - SSL/TLS error 100042e TLS_V1_ALERT_PROTOCOL_ERROR

★☆☆☆☆ e jul · Dec 3, 2019

Not working, the app is not connecting to the server, it doesn't even reach the server (no logs on the VPN plus server)

★★☆☆☆ Michael Jordan · Nov 11, 2019

Ignores port and only works with port 443. Therefore, RT2600AC configuration must be with port 443. Makes it less practical for me to use alongside a self-hosted web server.

★★☆☆☆ Mark Furmanik · May 11, 2021

Not impressed. Works horribly on Android. Won't auto connect after disconnect. Sick to OpenVPN for a rock solid state connection to nas.

★★☆☆☆ Chase Birchette · Feb 25, 2017

App does not connect. I get the error "Address is neither 4 nor 16 bytes". iOS app with the same settings works fine.
