Description
The FUTÁR application by BKK Centre for Budapest Transport has been renewed under the name BudapestGO, which, in addition to real-time route planning, has been extended with new functions: you can buy digital single tickets, daily and weekly travelcards or passes in the application and you can also be informed immediately about the current transport service changes. You can use the route planner with a cleaner and clearer interface, facilitated by a number of new features.
New features in the app: - Ticket and pass purchase, journey planning in a single app - Digital single ticket now also available - Automatic pass renewal - Traffic information (BKK Info application integrated) - Personalised transport updates via push message - Trip planning for trains and suburban railways available with a BKK-pass - Simplified interface - You can buy local or intercity tickets and passes for most municipalities in Hungary.

Once you get used to it (doesn't take long) it is quite handy. Path suggestions are good. Navigation a UI are simple enough.

As a tourist in Budapest for a week I don't know what all the other negative reviews are on about. It's sufficiently easy to make an account, get tickets (including 100E airport shuttle). Yes, you need to validate tickets with the scanner (that's fine some countries do it) As a tourist using it for metro, tram, bus, it's perfectly usable. I thought the reviews were a warning and to find alternative ways of getting tickets but no, the app is more than good enough.

The Budapest underground has a very easy to use contactless payment system. If only the buses and trams had the same system. The process for buying a ticket was extremely convoluted, requiring multiple confirmation emails, and sometimes you'd miss a bus waiting for the ticket.

Since last update I can't buy tickets anymore. It turned out that it's working with Hungarian SIM only...

beware-even when you buy tickets, you still can get fined. There was no mention of this in the app. In the normal world validating a ticket means your ticket is valid, in this app you can validate a ticket and still get fined. Could have used the location settings to warn people of being outside of zones but hey... you make less money scamming people that way.

A terrible app as none of the information on the map relates to getting the transport you need. I bought two singles on the way from the airport, used the shuttle, and had them checked with no issues. Buy the same tickets to return, only to be told they were the wrong ones and therefore would have to pay again. Use Google Maps for better directions and information.
