★★☆☆☆ I received a notification to upgrade firmware. The upgrade could not complete and I was asked me to contact support. Also, my Rinnai app indicates offline now and I am unable to control the Rinnai module. I tried to reset the module, power off on the heater unit, download the app again but nothing works.

★★☆☆☆ I had been using this app since my Rinnai water heater was installed in October, 2019, and, while the app could be quirky, it generally did what I wanted it to do. That came to a crashing end two days ago when it notified me that I had to update the firmware and then download and install a new app, Rinnai 2.0. Every attempt to update the firmware resulted in a message that the update couldn't be completed, and I needed to call customer service. After nearly 2 hours on hold, I gave up. On a hunch, I downloaded the new app and was eventually able to get it to work, sorta. Because of the distance from our water heater to our bathroom, we need to set the hot water temperature to 130 degrees, and our shower valve is safety balanced for that hot water temperature. The new app shows the water temperature to be zero and you can't change it. The recirculation feature worked briefly, but when my wife took a shower immediately after I did, the water temperature reset itself to 120 in the middle of her shower, which resulted in her being doused with cold water. Essentially, the recirculation feature is now useless and the reason for us buying this model Rinnai water heater has been negated. I hope the Rinnai legal department studies up on the term "implied warranty of fitness."
