Needs a person to watch an add first before doing a 30 day challenge exercise, what if a person has got no data to use

Is the option to watch an ad to unlock 1-day from the Challenge series even working? I have watched 3 ads in full (after the first ad was finished I expected to be able to access the first day of the Beginner challenge), but the app still prompts me to either pay for the challenge, buy a whole bundle, or watch an ad to unlock. So is watching an ad a genuine way to unlock content or must I spend money to get to the challenges?
