Description by Dog_Foot(from Google Play)
Four signings today. The last one was a refinance forty minutes out, and on the drive back you are already doing the math in your head: what did the day pay, and how many of those miles count. NotaryTally does that math the second you save the job and shows it on the same screen, so the drive home is just a drive.
A job takes about thirty seconds to log. Fee, round-trip miles, the company that hired you. Save, and today's income and deductible mileage roll forward in front of you, digit by digit, while you watch.
Mileage is figured at the IRS standard rate for the date you drove, not one number for the whole year. The rates live in a date-ranged table you can edit yourself, which matters in a year like 2026, when the rate changed on July 1. Forty miles in June and forty miles in July come out to different dollars, and the ledger knows which is which.
There is one distinction that generic expense apps miss entirely. Fees for notarial acts are exempt from self-employment tax; the rest of what a signing agent earns is not. NotaryTally asks for both numbers on every job, so by the time your preparer needs the split, it already exists. Which fee belongs where is your call; the app just keeps the two columns apart.
Expenses go in the same book: E&O insurance, supplies, printing, courses. A reminder shows up a week before each quarterly estimated-tax date. At year end, or any quarter, the report lays out gross income, the exempt portion, the mileage deduction by rate period, expenses, and an estimated net. The PDF you hand your tax preparer carries totals only, never client names. The CSV carries every line if you want the raw ledger. The report and the tally on your home screen come from the same arithmetic, so they cannot disagree.
Two things this app is not. It is not tax advice and it does not file anything; the deduction and exemption figures are estimates for your records. And it is not a notary journal. Your paper journal stays the legal record, as your state requires, and NotaryTally never asks for a signer's name, ID, or signature. It only keeps the business side: who hired you, what they paid, how far you drove.
The whole ledger lives on your phone. No account, no sign-up, no server, no analytics, and it works with zero bars in a parking lot. A home screen widget shows today's tally, Face ID or a passcode can lock the book, and the numbers are set in tabular figures so the columns line up like a real ledger. It is free.
Recent changes: First release.
Log a loan signing in about 30 seconds and watch today's income roll up on screen, with the mileage you can deduct sitting right beside it. NotaryTally is a money ledger built specifically for notary signing agents: per-job fees, IRS mileage, and business expenses in one place, organized the way Schedule C expects them.
