Description
Omnicom's Track Locator provides those working on, or interested in, the UK Rail Industry with a simple way to determine their current location in the standard rail referencing system of Engineering Line Reference, Track Identifier and Mileage. The application uses the Android Location Service and converts this to a railway reference using Omnicom's GeoModel of the rail network.
The App links to Google Maps to show the current location on a scalable map.
The App allows the user to take a picture which is stamped with the current user location including Latitude, Longitude (of the current location) and map matched ELR, Track ID, Mileage, Latitude, Longitude as well as the user location to matched position difference. The images are saved to the Gallery for easy access.
The rail reference is only displayed once a suitable location determination has been achieved. This is currently set at better than 100m. Please note that due to the accuracy of the Android Location Services correct determination of Track Identifier may not be achieved.
Notice to user of the current version.
A number of you have noted that the Track ID functionality (up/down/fast/slow etc) was removed with the last App update and that you would like this reinstated. Track ID was removed as a direct result of misuse of the App by a user. Despite clear instructions that the location information was not to be relied upon, it was, and could have led to a serious incident. Network Rail requested that this function be removed from the App we complied with this request.
Users are reminded that the locational accuracy of GPS in mobile devices can vary widely due to a number of factors and should not be used when making decisions with safety implications.
We are now working with Network Rail to reinstate the Track ID functionality with suitable safeguards against improper use. We hope to release an updated version of the App in the next few months.

A great tool for those in the rail industry. Pinpoints track location using Miles and Chains (yards/metres in brackets). Good for Network Rail engineers, PICOPs, Possession Support staff, Train Crew (for incident management) etc to communicate accurate location to Signaller.
★★★★★
Poor update The new version is very poor considering the information you used to receive, no up/down info etc, the camera doesn't seem to store any of the photos so a whole day was wasted as I now need to revisit. Update:06/02/14 The camera stores photos but I have to use a file manager to recover them, also there is a mileage mistake on the NEM1 lines, Omnicom informed. Update 05/08/14: Well they fixed the camera issue but that's about it, still a mileage mistake on the NEM1:(
★★★★★
Chains not working. As mentioned earlier chains isn't shown. It briefly flashes but reverts back to yards. Otherwise an excellent app. Still gonna 5star it because I am sure an update will rectify this.

Very disappointed to find out you can't select a point on the track map to find its elr and mileage on android. That was by far the most used function on my iPhone. Handy for logging exact locations on pictures though.

I've used this for a few years now and this new version doesn't work properly. After accepting the terms and conditions and starting it's asks for the GPS to be put on even if it's already on. Then I get the same screen asking for the same thing. I've tried with GPS off and then starting it but same problem.
★★☆☆☆
I have also changed from Apple to Samsung recently and I can no longer pinpoint mileage at other locations on the app. Used to be a very useful app but not very good now. Also jumps about on current mileage when I'm stood still in one spot.
